The Polish Baltic Sea is becoming increasingly popular as a holiday destination. The reason for this is obvious. No crowded, but almost deserted sandy beaches and natural coastal areas. Perfect to disconnect from his everyday life.
The bright sandy beach is isolated from a forest inland. The wide beach with fine-grained sand encourages to spread a bath towel and a bath, even a sunbathing, to enjoy. One feels, when one lies on the beach alone, almost like on a desert island. Only the ringing of a passing cyclist could tear one out of this illusion. Along the beach bike paths extend as far as the eye can see. Along the bike lanes you will find small bars that will whip up guests with a drink and a snack.
Mielenko is a picturesque village situated on the sea coast near Mielno. Its idyllic character clearly distinguishes it from the nearby spa town. Therefore, it is a dream resort for holidaymakers looking for a quiet and attractive seaside village. Archaeologists who have studied the traces of settlement discovered in Mielenko suggest that they date back to around 2500 BC. Come from Chr. The cemetery dates back to about 1700 BC. In addition, well-preserved farmhouses and farm buildings with timber-frame constructions from the XIX. A marvelous view awaits all those who drive from Mielenko to Mielno along the Lindenallee. The avenue of 150-year-old trees stretches over a length of two kilometers. The widely ramified treetops connect over the heads of the travelers and form a kind of vault. The trees look their best in the autumn, when their leaves take on gold shimmering and red shades. In the surroundings one can discover Turkish hazelnut trees, which are atypical for Poles. They grow along the road to Chłopy and Sarbinowo. They are over one hundred years old and covered with rare lichens that live only in a very clean environment. If you want to combine recreation with sporting activity, visit the recreation and sports field at the youth center. The public area is equipped with a multi-functional sports field for team games.
To get to the top of the lighthouse in Gąski, you have to take the granite spiral staircase with 190 steps. It’s worth the climb because the view from the 50 metre tower is breath-taking. A fantastic panorama of the Baltic Sea spreads right in front of your eyes. You can also see Sarbinowo, Chłopy, Mielno and Unieście.
The historic building is almost 140 years old. The light of the lighthouse in good weather is visible to sailors on passing ships at a distance of 36 km or 19.5 nautical miles. It is the second largest lighthouse on the Polish coast.
The tower is located right in the centre of a picturesque holiday village. The first mention of Gąski dates back to the 17th century.
On the one side the Baltic Sea, on the other side the Lake Jamno and in between, on a narrow spit, Mielno. Mielno is one of the most popular coastal towns in Poland, a pearl in the crown of West Pomerania. You can expect wide beaches with a unique in Europe quartz sand. Along the shore runs an attractive promenade. On well-developed tourist trails you can continue your walk through the forest behind the dunes.
During the summer holidays the Artistic Summer invites from Mielno. Summer Cinema, India Festival, Zumba Summer Party, Karaoke Festival “Super Star”. These are just a few of the offers that lead to more and more stars from music, film and cabaret Mielno visit.
Sarbinowo is a place whose existence once hung on by a mere thread. Over the course of the centuries the Baltic Sea edged closer and closer to the village, overwhelming the land metre by metre. Rescue came in 1910 with the construction of a stone-concrete retaining wall. Since its very beginnings it has been used as a walkway, and the extension carried out in recent years has changed it into a wide promenade.
There are far more reasons to visit Sarbinowo. They include the neo-Gothic Church of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary built in 1856, boasting a 19th century organ. You can hear for yourself how it sounds in the summer during the Koszalin International Organ Music Festival.
Before the church was constructed, however, the Battle of Sarbinowo had put it on the map.
In 1758 the Prussian army fought the Russian army, and the temple which had earlier stood at the site where the church now stands was partially destroyed. It was most likely founded by the Knights Templar, with Sarbinowo having belonged to them until 1312.
When the Pope dissolved the Knights Templar, the church was assumed by the Order of St. John. In the 16th century it was taken into Protestants hands. Finally, almost a hundred years after the battle which brought the temple’s golden era to an end, a neo-Gothic church was erected in its stead.
A must-see place while visiting Sarbinowo is the half-timbered fisherman’s cottage from 1804. The building is covered with a characteristic thatched roof made of braided cane and twigs filled with clay mixed with sawdust and wood chips. Inside the building you can find a feast for the palate – an inn is run here now.
